Many thanks to our guests for their kind words about Elmet Farmhouse
‘We’ve fallen in love with the area… I’m hard pushed to describe which elements of our stay I have appreciated the most. The location is wonderful. Just standing at the window for minutes (hours…) feels nurturing, then the walks from the door, or just a short drive away. The house itself is beautiful. Such loving care over the renovation, the design choices, and each room with beautiful, simple pieces, old and new. And so well equipped. Not a thing lacking to make our stay comfortable on a practical level. We loved it and hope to be back.‘ (Claire and Tim, 2024)
‘Thank you for an amazing stay at Elmet. A true gem of a cottage. It has been the perfect retreat for us. The cottage is really something very special – such attention to design detail – with every need catered for. We enjoyed the sunshine and views from the garden. It was a real treat to spend time out there. And it is just so quiet here – we’ve all had some of the best nights’ sleep we’ve had in a long time! ‘ (Clare, Mary, Emma and William, 2024)
‘Elmet is a real “gem”. A special place with amazing views. Spaciously laid out, well stocked in the kitchen with utensils etc, and in the lounge with board games and logs for the fire. We wanted to celebrate our Ruby wedding anniversary in a special place with family and then with Uni friends. We were married in Haworth and have really loved reconnecting with this wonderfully unspoilt area. Lots of good walks, steam trains and pub visits but most of all enjoyed the use of the interesting property. Thank you for being a receptive hostess and helping us when needed.’ (Cathy and Mike, 2024)
‘So much wonderful mid-century modern sitting comfortably with massive stone fireplaces – a treat for the eyes and the senses.’ (Alan and Susanna, 2024)
‘A second visit to this lovely place. A wonderful place for us, a group of friends, to stay and make memories. The sun shone too! A fab lunch in Hebden Bridge was a treat. Thank you.’ (Di, Antonia, Rebekah and Sarah, 2024)
‘Another lovely week, thank you. Can’t get enough of this landscape.’ (Emma, Andrew, Zoe and Elin, 2024)
‘Thank you for such a wonderful stay. The house is superb and the scenery is remarkable. Beautifully finished, while still retaining character features. Stunning views across the valley. Everywhere you turned there are beautiful lamps, wallpapers, & wall hangings. Amazing walks on offer. We did the shortish walk from Stanbury to Top Withens which was a highlight from our 5 week trip [from Australia]. This is a really special place – we’d love to stay again! Don’t want to leave.’ (Dana, Glynn, Eva, Elsbeth and Emeline, 2024)
‘Thanks for an amazing stay. The house was so Christmassy and cosy. We had the best time.’ (Tobias and family, New Year 2023)

‘What can we say about our stay at Elmet Farmhouse? It has been delightfully different, mainly due to the unique and creative way you have furnished the property. You have worked very hard to put your passion for art into the visitors’ experience. We have really enjoyed our stay here. The bedrooms are large and comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The information provided was most useful in helping us to plan and enjoy the local area. Thank you.’ (Sue, Heather, Julie, Tracy, Penny and Sonia, 2023)
‘The farmhouse is a really lovely place to stay: spotlessly clean and comfortable, in a beautiful setting perfect for a break with friends. It is well equipped and tastefully decorated throughout: a real home from home. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others.’ (Penny and friends, 2023)
‘We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay, from the impeccably restored farmhouse to the tastefully curated furnishings – especially as architects. The nod to mid-century while honouring the history of the property was truly appreciated. We have never stayed anywhere that has met our attention to detail and anticipation of every need as Elmet. The farmhouse has felt like a home big enough, yet cosy enough, to hold us all. Having our family gather round the large farmhouse table or staring across the fields listening to the sheep and cows, this holiday will forever be imprinted in our memories. We have never been so sad to leave somewhere. Two weeks were simply not enough!’ (Natalie, Mark, Charlotte, Henry, Andrew and Grandma Beverley, 2023)
‘Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely cottage. We had a great time, with fantastic walks, both from the cottage and further afield. It has been lovely to sit in the garden (we were lucky with the weather) and watch the wildlife and the birds. The attention to detail in the cottage has been great, and made our stay a lot easier. Hope to be back in future.’ (Steve, Karen and Sam, 2023)

‘The farmhouse sits in a beautiful location and has been meticulously renovated. Everything was as described and we had a very comfortable stay. It was handy to be able to jump on a bus to get to Hebden Bridge and Haworth without driving. The Robin Hood Inn in Pecket Well is also walkable and very homely. Highlights were the walks around Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Bronte Museum. We even had a trip to Hebden Bridge cinema which is delightful. Thanks for a lovely stay.’ (Tina and family, 2023)

‘Thank you for your welcome and all the effort you have made to create such a beautiful home. ‘Casting around for a location for another weekend getaway, the five of us quickly decided that we’d had such a good time at Elmet that the only thing that made sense was for us to come back. This time it was a month later and the valleys below the house were covered in snow – beautiful. We had a lovely time playing board games, eating some nice food and going for a walk to Gibson Mill before crossing the valley and climbing up to Heptonstall. Another lovely weekend, Thanks again.‘ (Tom, Alex, Max, Martin and Richard, 2022)

Thanks for a wonderful stay. We’ll be back again.‘ (Lauren and friends, 2022)
‘Had a wonderful stay! Regret not staying longer. Big thank you.‘ (Fae and friends, New Year 2021)
‘Finally we’ve been able to stay at Elmet. It’s been fantastic, but too brief. We’ve loved the peace and quiet, the stupendous views, the fire, the outstanding collection of obscure board games, the beautiful textiles, furniture and ceramics, browsing the books and magazines, and the lamplight.‘ (Jane and family, London, Christmas 2021)
‘Thanks so much for providing such a relaxing and welcoming place for our weekend getaway. Elmet seemed like the perfect location – but how perfect! Beautiful and comfortable on the inside, we looked out on the first morning to the most amazing view – a multitude of autumn shades stretching down the valley to the imposing Stoodley Pike monument in the distance. The house is spacious and welcoming, and the building has some lovely features like exposed stonework that make it feel luxurious and authentic. An amazing place – I hope we get to go back sometime!‘ (Tom, Alex, Max, Martin and Richard, Tyneside and Scotland, November 2021)
‘Autumn has yielded her splendour here! I was brought by dear friends – a generous 60th birthday gift – to share their delight in Elmet. Such a loving restoration and appreciation of design. A perfect place for replenishment. ‘ (Liz, Gill and Tim, London, November 2021)
‘Quite simply, the most beautiful and welcoming house we have ever stayed in. A home from home which is flawless, both in its welcome and in its ‘well-thought-outness’! Our second visit and I’m sure we’ll be back again.‘ (Jackie, Mike and Eileen, Essex, September 2021)
‘What a fantastic time we have had in your beautiful farmhouse. 5 stars really doesn’t do it justice. Absolutely superb location high above the Calder Valley overlooking Heptonstall. Feeling relaxed and recharged.‘ (Janet and Julia, Hertfordshire, September 2021)
‘What an utter privilege to stay in such a gem of a farmhouse – beautiful in every way! Elmet is not only historically situated in this special literary location, but also aesthetically delightful and playful in the way it is furnished and lit. I was so excited to wake up and draw the beautiful curtains and gaze at the fabulous view. Rabbits, pheasants and swallows darting across the gorgeous green meadows in the evening sunshine.’
‘A lovely week discovering this part of the world, with trips to Shibden Hall, Stoodley Pike and Malham Cove. Some of the highlights were the artisan market in Hebden Bridge with its hilly higgledy piggledy streets; walking up the Buttress from the packhorse bridge to exquisite cobbled Heptonstall; and stepping like dwarfs over the giant slabs of limestone above Malham. But the walks are what we’ll remember most – and Elmet and its superb garden and meadows.‘ (Fi, Rupert and family, August 2021)

‘Excellent place to stay with stunning views! We managed to do the Hardcastle Crags trails over 2 days. We visited Heptonstall and used the local train station to visit Halifax to see the amazing Piece Hall. Loads of places to eat and drink and the Hebden Bridge Cruises are recommended. ‘Our late September stay at Elmet Farmhouse has proved worthy of a place in our memories. It has been a delight to be taken back to our childhoods with linoleum floors, Ercol furniture, the fabrics and the lamps. Nice to see all these in such a cosy home. Such peaceful, totally silent nights – bliss! The Piece Hall in Halifax is well worth a visit for the historic architecture as well as the special shops. Then to the RHS Gardens in Harrogate and to Haworth to visit the Bronte Parsonage Museum. Walk over the moors to Top Withens, said to have been the inspiration for Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. All in all, we had a wonderful time here, and truly got a taste of Yorkshire.’ (Chris and Luisa, Buckinghamshire, September 2020)
‘A lovely week spent escaping, in a space with plenty of room to breathe. The Bridestones, Stoodley Pike, Yorkshire Sculpture Park all wonderful. And the doughnuts from the Blue Sky Baker in Hebden Bridge are fantastic!’ (Emma, Andrew, Zoe and Elin, Hertfordshire, September 2020)

The collection of maps, guides, historical and geographical literature makes the internet entirely redundant. As well as the walk across the meadow via the war memorial to Hebden Bridge, we can recommend the 50 Walks in West Yorkshire book. Stunning views and the calls of curlew, lapwing (and sheep) on the moorland edge.We used our car just once all week – the bus service is regular and convenient. We have walked at Hardcastle Crags, Pecket Well, Hebden Bridge and along the Haworth Old Road [to Crimsworth Dean] to see the curlews and lapwings. We visited Heptonstall twice (seeing the church and village across the valley wasn’t enough) and went to Sylvia Plath’s grave and Lumb Bank, once the home of Ted Hughes. The farmhouse renovation and decorations are inspired and inspiring – we’ve loved returning here to feel the joy and beauty and comfort of your hard work – it couldn’t have been more perfect. ‘Lesley is an amazing host and the level of detail and thought she has put into this cottage for her guests is nothing short of amazing. I stayed here with 5 friends over the festive season. Upon entering the cottage, we found freshly baked scones and home-made jam. From this point I knew that this lady really cared about her guests and she went the extra mile for us… We toured the house and sure enough, it was full of personal touches. We couldn’t have asked for more. The whole house was immaculately clean (better than a 5* hotel) and the interior was very tasteful with beautiful furniture. The bedrooms were huge with stunning views out of the living room and front bedroom. We were treated to a lovely sight of two pheasants sitting in the tree outside the living room window. The house was very warm and cosy with an easy-to-use heating system and fast WiFi. This cottage has literally everything you need… There was even a yoga mat in the cupboard. The kitchen is huge and was big enough to host dinner for 6 people. We had everything we needed in terms of kitchen utensils and appliances. I won’t share any more of the lovely personal touches that Lesley has added to this stunning country residence – this really is something you need to experience for yourself. I will definitely be visiting again. This has been one of the nicest places I have stayed.’ (Dez, Manchester, December 2017)

‘Elmet is such a special place: the views are fantastic and you can go walking from the door, but what really sets it apart is the expert eye with which the owner has decorated the farmhouse in mid-century style and her care in thinking about everything you need for an enjoyable stay, from a well-equipped kitchen to books and classic games. One of my party described it as simply the best holiday home she had ever stayed in. There is a beautifully-planted garden from which to enjoy the view. And the Hebden Bridge bus stops at the end of the drive, so you can go even if you don’t have a car.’ (Susannah, London, July 2017)

‘Simply a stunning, beautiful, immaculately presented property with a most accommodating and thoughtful host – we traveled through Europe for 5 weeks and Elmet was easily and comprehensively the best place we stayed. The home has charm and character in spades but is also equipped to a very high standard with everything thought of and more – we could have stayed much, much longer and never been bored. Our family of 5 had more than enough room and 6 would fit just as easily – the property is easy to access from Hebden Bridge and has wonderful views. Highly recommended!’ (Phil, Brisbane, Australia, December 2016)

Bravo!’ (Bruno, Oxford, October 2016)
‘We have all had a wonderful time here. We have loved exploring the area and visiting Hebden Bridge. The stunning views from the cottage, along with the beautiful decoration inside, have made for a magical time. The moment we arrived we knew we were going to love it here: scones and homemade jam laid out on a tray; all the beautiful lamps lit; and then Lesley appearing and teaching the children to play bagatelle! Thank you so much for everything.‘ (Emily, Bruno, Jasper, Lydia, Daniel and Ivo, Oxford, October 2016)
‘We stayed for 2 weeks adn would have loved to stay longer. It lived up to everything on the website. The house was warm and comfortable and we loved the views, the village with its strong independent community, the history and the walks along the canal and out into moorland. Perhaps the strongest recommendation came from our Australian friend who stayed with us for a weekend at Elmet. After visiting several European capitals, London and the Scottish Highlands, he considered his Elmet experience the highlight of his trip. We can’t wait to return. ‘ (Keith, Melbourne, Australia, October 2016)
‘This has been such an enjoyable two weeks for so many reasons. Staying here without a car and using our feet or the bus at the end of the drive was a joy. Hebden Bridge is a terrific little town. All the people, including the local independent shopkeepers, were so helpful. And then there has been the calm and restorative luxury of Elmet. A magnificent country cottage with uplifting views every moment in every passing phase of weather. And all topped off by Lesley’s kindness and real care, but without intrusion. Everything was perfect!‘ (Keith and Debby, Melbourne, Australia, September-October 2016)

We hope to visit again!‘ (Roma, Badri, Badrinath, Rekha and Padma, London and Edinburgh, August 2016)
‘We had a wonderful stay. The setting views are exceptional but Lesley’s attention to detail is what really makes this place stand out. Lesley has been meticulous in designing a cosy abode, but is also meticulous in ensuring every whim is catered for and every need met. A warm welcome with scones and homemade jam was delightful, as well as the thoughtfulness to leave out the relevant books and guides pertaining to our particular interests.’ (Sophie, Lee and Ruby, Suffolk, August 2016)
‘So glad I found your place – one of the best holidays of my life. Thank you for the opportunity to stay here. It has been wonderful. We had a great time exploring the area and the many interesting aspects of the cottage.’ (Kathleen and Richard, West Yorkshire, August 2016)
‘We have enjoyed a great week here in Pecket Well. Your house and the design of it is a pleasure to spend a holiday week in. Just being welcomed with scones was the first happy little moment. We will surely recommend our Danish friends and families to visit the “Danish House” outside Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire – and maybe we will come back some other day.’ (Inge, Laura, Asta, Agnes and Per, Denmark, July 2016)
‘What a magnificent place to stay. A glorious part of the country in a glorious house. Everything is “just right” and it’s the attention to detail in every aspect of the accommodation that makes Elmet a special place. I’ve never stayed in somewhere where everything has been thought of. It makes “holidaying” so much more pleasurable. The views are magnificent, so much so that I found myself simply staring across the valley to Stoodley Pike and Heptonstall church on numerous occasions. The cottage is fantastically well equipped kitchen-wise and the interior decoration and furnishing is a joy. I’d recommend wholeheartedly.’ (Alastair, Beverley and Gregory, Buckinghamshire, July 2016)
‘Lesley made us feel extremely welcome before we’d even arrived. There were delightful fresh scones for us on arrival and the house was immaculately presented. The property itself was full of beautiful furniture and had everything we could possibly have needed. A lovingly curated selection of interior classics! Lesley’s love for the surrounding area is passed on through very informative walking guides and books. Thank you for all the wonderful information and for such a wonderful stay. We have two children who were delighted with the twin room and who didn’t want to leave the house! There’s so much to see and do here that it feels as though we’ve only scratched the surface with trips into the Dales, Hebden Bridge, Heptonstall, Harrogate, Grassington, Haworth and the Brontë Parsonage.
